La Puebla de Montalbán lies in the heart of Toledo province, in the Torrijos area on the banks of the River Tagus. It is about 30 kilometres from Toledo and approximately 100 kilometres from Madrid.
By car
The CM-4000 is the main road into the town. Recommended routes include:
- From Madrid and northern or central Spain: take the A-42 towards Toledo, connect with the CM-40 and then turn onto the CM-4000. The journey takes approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.
- From Toledo: take the CM-4000 north-west. The journey takes about 25–30 minutes.
- From the south: take the A-4 to the Madridejos or Consuegra area, then the CM-42 towards Toledo and the exit for the CM-4000.
- From the east, Valencia or Murcia: take the A-3 or A-31 towards the A-40 in the direction of Toledo, then connect with the CM-4000.
- From the west, Extremadura or Portugal: take the A-5 to the Torrijos exit, A-40 or TO-21, then the CM-4009. The journey from Torrijos takes just over 10 minutes.
By bus
Regular services connect the town with the area’s main transport hubs:
- From Madrid: Grupo Samar operates a direct service between Príncipe Pío station and La Puebla de Montalbán, stopping in Alcorcón, Móstoles and Torrijos. The journey takes approximately 1 hour 40 minutes.
- From Toledo: regional services connect Toledo bus station with La Puebla de Montalbán. This is a practical option when travelling from southern or eastern Spain via the provincial capital.
By train
The town has no railway station of its own, but train travel can be combined with a short bus or taxi journey:
- Torrijos station, 15 km away: the closest station, with Renfe Media Distancia services on the Madrid–Cáceres–Badajoz line. The final journey takes around 10–15 minutes.
- Toledo-AVE station, 30 km away: AVE or Avant services take around 30 minutes from Madrid-Puerta de Atocha. Continue from Toledo by regional bus or taxi.
